#stingrays of this lagoon for decades to allow tourists & locals to enjoy interacting with the animals. They are very highly regarded & protected in French Polynesia. Because of the close interaction with humans they can behave more assertively than they naturally would. Naturally sting rays are very mellow creatures. Steve Irwin dedicated his life to protecting wildlife & showing us its beauty! What happened to him was a freak accident & he would never want us to fear them. Sting ray accidents are extremely rare but it is important to be aware in the water & avoid their barb. 🥞
